Climate Austria (www.climateaustria.at) uses a certified calculation method to determine the CO2 emissions of private individuals, companies and also flights. CO2 compensation can then be achieved by supporting national and international climate protection projects. The focus is on renewable energies, energy efficiency and the change of energy sources from non-renewable to renewable energy sources in Austria. The projects are selected under strict standards and often have socio-economic side effects.
Treedom (www.treedom.net) trees are planted in different countries for your CO2 compensation. The project finances and supports small farmers in caring for the trees in their first years of life, when they are not yet productive. The agricultural cooperatives receive the necessary know-how and technical support for planting and caring for the trees. Each individual tree is photographed, geolocated and regularly checked by Treedom when it is transplanted. You can decide whether you want to support a baobab in Kenya or a lemon tree in Tanzania.
Tree planting projects like Treedom are monocultures that cannot replace a cleared rainforest or natural forest stands. Therefore, we would like to recommend other projects for the protection of tropical rainforest.
The Association Rainforest of the Austrians (www.regenwald.at) is committed to the preservation of an endangered rainforest area of 40km² in Costa Rica. This was incorporated into a national park to protect biodiversity. In addition, the association is committed to the reforestation of cleared land, the employment of wildlife rangers, the protection of endangered species, sustainable tourism and tropical research.
Tropica Verde (www.tropica-verde.de) is a German association for the protection of tropical habitats, biological diversity and endangered species in Costa Rica. The association is committed to reforestation, forest and species conservation as well as environmental education in Costa Rica and Germany. Furthermore, the association bears the DZI donation seal and has committed itself to transparency according to the requirements of the "Initiative Transparente Zivilgesellschaft".
